YouTube – the instant idiot generator

May 28th, 2008

Aint YouTube brilliant! Thanks to the world’s favourite video sharing website, global humiliation is never more than a quick click away.

No longer can you safely sing into a hairbrush in front of a camcorder, safe in the knowledge that your antics will remain a secret between you and your air guitar. These days, if you commit anything to video, you have to be mindful that one of your hilarious ‘friends’ might get hold of your secret tape, put it on the Internet, then watch as the world laughs at you.

Weezer have just released a music video starring a selection of some of the more notable unfortunates immortalised by the global-idiot generator that is YouTube. Watch and enjoy…

The Sky is alive with the sound of music…

May 20th, 2008

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No – it’s an opera singer. Londoners were amazed this morning to be greeted with the sight of opera superstar Lesley Garrett giving her most unique performance yet - 50 metres above the Tower of London.

The world’s first-ever aerial operatic performance was staged today to promote the launch of the new Sky Seats Extra scheme, which offers reduced price opera tickets to the public. Sky Arts, sponsors of English National Opera (ENO), will now provide 14,000 seats for as little as £20 a ticket (saving up to £46 per ticket). Sky Seats is the largest permanent discount ticket plan available for major opera productions in the UK with over 14,000 tickets available per season.

Lucky opera fans at today’s stunt were seated on specially-designed theatre seating, decked out in red velvet, and were hoisted up in the air by a 160-tonne crane, to experience the ultimate audio-visual treat as Lesley performed an aria from The Magic Flute, part of English National Opera’s up coming season.

A tough day at work

Cake is currently working on a top secret project featuring a team of fighting dwarves. Can’t really say any more than that yet but all will be revealed in good time. Take a look at our very own Chris Willis, who received a four foot helping of PAIN over the weekend!

Flowertising!

May 15th, 2008

Cake has been exercising its green fingers for The Children’s Society this week.

We created the UK’s first live billboard made entirely out of flowers in celebration of the charity’s garden at this years Chelsea Flower Show. Over 8000 fresh roses, 1500 carnations and 1000 crythsanths (all approx.) were used to create this fantastic floral masterpiece.

Unfortunately, we’re not as good at managing taxis as we are at managing innovative billboard campaigns, which is why Kim ended up on site at 7am - a full hour before the build actually commenced at 8am under the expert eye of billboard specialist Will Parkinson.

The most colourful thing to hit Hackney was completed for a press photo-call by 10.30am. Bloomin’ Marvellous!
