He’s office head!

June 16th, 2008

Sitting in front of a grey computer, changing the number in row 56, column 8 in your 12th spreadsheet of the day… it’s enough to make you lose it.

Of course, that sort of thing doesn’t happen here at Cake. If you get bored, you can just hop onto the helter-skelter slide down to the basement of fun where women (or men) in bikinis will serve you a cocktail while you play Sonic the Hedgehog on the Sega Megadrive from your lilo as you float around in the pool.

Unfortunately, not everyone is as lucky as us, and sitting in an office doing the same thing each day can send you one way or the other as these two videos demonstrate.

Scenario one – you find something to distract you and focus on that, developing a useless skill that helps you deal with the tedium as demonstrated here:

Scenario two – colleagues amuse themselves by throwing paper clips at you. You, in turn, react by hurdling over the desk in a bid to execute a hilarious yet effective bear hug:

So, on this marvelously sunny Monday morning, which one are you?

The wait is over my friends, tickets for Ben & Jerry’s Sundae on the Common are now on sale! Hurrah!

Now in its fourth year, Ben & Jerry’s Sundae on the Common has become a Moosic festival like no other. Taking place on London’s Clapham Common on 26th and 27th of July 2008, this year’s Sundae is set to be one giant party as Ben & Jerry’s celebrate 30 years of doing good stuff. Live music, fairground rides and free ice cream are just some of the things to look forward to!

Ash will be headlining on Sunday 27th July and they will be joined by very special guests The Lemonheads as well as Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly. Those top acts will be supported by Slow Club, Cage the Elephant, Parka, The New York Fund and The Vivians. Plus Jerry Greenfield, the Jerry of Ben & Jerry’s, will also be at the event, celebrating the ice cream’s 30th birthday in style!

Tickets are selling like hot cakes (or should I say cold ice cream), at a rate of one every 2.4 seconds, so you’d better be quick…

Log onto www.benjerry.co.uk to get your hands on some tickets before they disappear forever… oh, and watch this space for the Saturday line up!

See you there

Chillin’ out with Andy

June 9th, 2008

Razorlight drummer Andy Burrows treated seven lucky fans to a unique 15 minute live acoustic set at Rock Ness festival prior to the bands
headline performance at the event.

The ‘Strike Cold Session’ gig took place in the unusual surroundings of a Carling fridge truck at Carling’s Cold Beer Amnesty. The trucks are normally used to keep the beer on site extra cold, allowing festival goers to exchange any unopened can of warm beer for an ice cold can of Carling. Andy defied the 2c temperature to perform several tracks from his new solo album.

Visit www.carling.com for more information about Carling’s summer ‘Strike Cold’ campaign.

In stitches

Billboard advertising has come on in leaps and bounds over the years. Where once, passers-by had to make do with simple 2D images, we are now treated to video displays, overhead projections and humungous programmable LED signage.

Yet here at Cake, we like to put our own spin on things which is why we created the world’s first knitted billboard for Sky and the Women’s Institute in a bid to crown the first ever W-Icon.

A dedicated team of WI knitters created the billboard, made from 80 kilometres (enough to stretch from London to Brighton) of wool and taking over 250 hours to create. The billboard was unveiled at the NFWI (National Federation of Women’s Institutes) AGM this week.

The search for the W-Icon will end when one WI member is chosen from over 200,000 women to become the face of the institute on Sky Learning. She will use the skills the WI is famous for, by hosting a range of inspiring and useful ‘How To’ guides to modern life. The guides will be hosted online and broadcast on Sky TV.

If you think you are or know someone who could be the ultimate W-Icon, then visit www.sky.com/w-icon for an application form.

Ready,Set, Go! Cake storms to victory

June 2nd, 2008

Taking inspiration from some of the greats, Paula Radcliffe, Haile Gebrsellasie and Liz McColgan, Cake HQ were out in force on Friday for a 5K run to help raise money for charity.

With the classics loaded on our ipods (Eye of the tiger, I will survive, Don’t Give Up) we proceeded to the gruelling course set out in Regents Park. As we arrived at the venue, the luminous placards outlining the course made everything seem so real, there was no going back!

We assembled ourselves at the start line, checking out the competition and nodding our heads at the other runners. It was a fearful sight, an array of team shirts, motivational speeches and military warm up exercises designed to make us weak at the knees. But we were psyched and the adrenaline was pumping, Cake HQ was poised and ready to fly!

We left the start line like Wippets, mowing down anyone in our way, but by the 4k mark I myself was ready to give up. Indeed, I probably would have given up were it not for the moral support of my fellow Cakers, who lifted my spirits and helped keep utter exhaustion at bay. Nice to see that sportsmanship is alive and well, and even nicer to get fitter and raise a bit of cash for charity in the process.

Well Done to Matt Holmes who bombed it to the finishing line in double quick time. You’re our hero!
