Cake went to the movies last night. We, along with 300 guests of all ages crammed ourselves into the Prince Charles cinema for the glitzy ‘A Tale Of Two Continents’ movie premiere featuring everyone’s favourite tea loving chimp!

People had travelled from far and wide to witness Monkey’s breathtaking performance in his eagerly anticipated movie debut. And it was Monkey-madness on the green carpet as fans piled through the doors, popcorn, tickets and mini-chimps in hand.

‘A Tale of Two Continents’ takes you on an intriguing journey from ancient China to the present day, following PG Tips from birth right up to its Rainforest Alliance Certification, received this year.

Monkey stars in the movie as Shennong, legendary Emperor of China, a captain of a tea clipper and an intrepid jungle explorer on a mission to inform the tea drinking public about what goes into the cuppa they love so much, and what Rainforest Alliance Certification really means.

Anyone who missed this tour de force is in luck as the short film is being rolled out to cinemas nationwide as of today. Being the generous type, Monkey is also giving away a special edition DVD and movie souvenir tea towel on packs of PG tips throughout April.

Monkey commented, ‘When a job involves kissing a beautiful co-star, you can’t help but enjoy yourself. I just hope everyone enjoys it as much as I did!’

Are you sitting comfortably?

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

The Sky team has been very busy over the last few weeks trying to improve their posture! Instead of slouching at their desks, they have been sitting up straight and comfortably, thanks to a series of tips provided by some of the coutry’s daintiest ballet dancers.

Sky sponsors the English National Ballet and decided that its staff needed some postural therapy so invited the ballerinas to their offices in a bid to rid the company of C.O.P.S - Chronic Office Posture Syndrome!

The dancers managed to improve even the most slouchy of Sky staff with their 5 postural tips. Now created into a full guide, the tips and background of the guide can be found here.

The guide has been so successful that it made it onto page 3 of the Evening Standard, as well as London Lite and Daily Star!

The Boys Are Back In Town

March 2nd 2008: Damien Duff’s 29th birthday, the 38th anniversay of Rhodesia’s Decleration of Independence but - most importantly - the Football League Awards!

“The Oscars of the Footballing World” will once again incorporate the presentation of the Wickes Young Apprentice of the Year Award and here at Cake, the Wickes team have been busy giving the shortlisted footballers the recognition that they deserve. The six young players in contention are:

- Anthony Acheampong, Cardiff City
- Mark Beevers, Sheffield Wednesday
- Mark Devonshire, Barnsley
- Lee Hills, Crystal Palace
- Joe Mattock, Leicester City
- Tommy Smith, Ipswich Town

Now in it’s third year, the award looks to recognise the best young talent in the Championship, and examines both the players’ skills on the pitch, and their committment off the field to learning and development.

Last year’s winner Chris Gunter - pictured below with his trophy and some helpful Wickes staff - has since been snapped up by ‘top’ Premiership side Tottenham Hotspur so we’re expecting big things for the boy that comes out on top at the exclusive awards ceremony in March….

New Kids On The Block

No - unfortunately HR haven’t persuaded Jordan, Jonathan, Joey, Donnie and Danny to reprise such classics as “Hangin’ Tough” and “The Right Stuff” at Cake Towers. Even better than that, we were delighted to welcome the just as good-looking Emma I, Emma T and James into the Cake fold this week.

Account Manager Emma Thomson joins us to help with the PG Tips and Teavigo accounts. Her biggest passion in life is music and if she were a real cake, it would be a carrot one.

James Duffy is looking forward to plenty of sweet treats as he joins the Ben & Jerry’s and United Biscuits teams as an Account Executive. For him, it’s Brandy that floats his boat (the songstress, not the drink) and he would have to be a Death By Chocolate cake.

Finally, Account Executive Emma Ireland will be tackling Pot Noodle and PG Tips. She counts ‘laughing’ among her biggest passions and she would also be a ‘carrot cake’ but, ‘with that thick icing on top…. Mmm’.
