irelandEmma Jane Ireland likes the odd bit of Cake

My Favourite Newspaper

The Sun for the Puns! You will never get a title quite as cleverly, rib-tickingly written as you do in The Sun. And as a PR, getting a piece in this rag (depending on the nature of the campaign of course) can result in a great PR value.

I also like to be seen to be reading something that not only exudes intelligence, but offers a more impartial and factually correct read  – so The Sunday Times at weekends is a favourite.

The Inde and Guardian are also nice weekday read.

My Favourite TV

I don’t watch a lot of TV in the evenings, however, I like to indulge in ‘power’ sittings of TV series – Heroes is the favourite.

Also, still a huge fan of Friends despite Channel 4, E4, E4+1, and T4 showing them on constant repeat, and sometimes rather annoyingly re airing them in no particular order. Series five onwards!

And Sunday night TV has just got good with a series of interesting travelling,  wildlife and snow sports documentaries, not to mention Top Gear.

My Favourite Magazines

I’m afraid although I like Vice, Pop, and Dazed and Confused etc, I am still a massive fan of Glamour. That magazine is a girly bible that fits in your handbag… need I anymore?

My Favourite Music

Loving 80’s again right now

Minimal and techno house - Massive fan of Ritchie Hawtin and Magda at the moment.

Always loving classic Bob Marley. Beautiful happy music – anything that has the power to make me smile that much and forget about the stresses of life for a while has gotta be good!

Getting more and more into world music – check out Cymande

Wanting to learn more. Less TV, more music… in fact, I might give up TV for lent.

My Favourite Work

I admire any work that is creative, and being in PR, I keep a keen eye out for clever campaigns or stories. I also love adverts, I pay more attention to ads than  programmes. Favourite recent ads – Addidas legend house party, Compare the meerkat.com (the website is awesome) and the Barclaycard advert makes me smile. Shame it’s for a credit card company!

My Favourite Newspaper

I’m not a huge newspaper buyer; instead I opt for the free option. So that’s Metro in the morning and London Lite on the way home.  One usually just regurgitates the others information but I figure reading things twice just makes it stick in your brain that little bit longer.

On a Sunday though there’s nothing better than eggs royale and the Observer. Purely because it’s got so many pull out bits, you can literally waist an entire morning flicking through it. Plus, I haven’t quite mastered the art of standing on a tube and trying to open out all the various parts of the Guardian without falling over so its definitely a read on the sofa type paper.

If I’m really hungover then the Sun is the only way to go…lots of pictures and the ridiculous stories make you feel good about yourself in that crucial time of need.

My Favourite TV

I don’t have a big TV routine I just tend to flick around until I see something I like.  There’s so many different things I like on TV its hard to pick out a favourite really.

I’m slightly addicted to Master Chef at the moment and the way that hamster cheeked man puts food into his mouth. Most food shows are easy watching, particularly River Cottage with that rosy checked Hugh.

Channel 4 documentaries are always a good watch as well as any nature programme narrated by David Attenborough.

A slightly guilty pleasure of mine is Antiques Roadshow. Watched it since I was little and you cant beat seeing the sheer happiness and surprise on the sweet granny’s face when she realises her silver antique thimble is actually worth £40 not the £1 she bought it for…perfect Sunday TV.

My Favourite Magazines

I tend to read magazines that are left around by my housemates or round the office, there’s not one in particular that I read although I often feel like I should have a dedication to one, no idea why?!

I used to buy Wallpaper every week which I loved to read and look at all the different designs but it’s bloody expensive so it’s a treat nowadays.

Vice magazine is something I’ll always look through even though the pretentious, I’m cooler and more individual than anyone else drivel they come out with is really annoying some of the stories they cover are quite interesting.

Lizzy Pollott does stuff at Cake.

My Favourite Newspaper

A bit like asking me my favourite member of Take That, but…

Weekdays, The Times gets my vote – particular fan of the Times2 especially Caitlin Moran and her Celebwatch. Simon Barnes is a legend, whether it’s sporting matters or birdwatching. Fact.

On the weekend, I’m anyone’s – Saturday Times first, especially for Giles Coren, Robert Crampton and Slummy Mummy, and Alan Jackson is a great interviewer (and one of the nicest journalists ever). Guardian Weekend, Guardian Guide (but only for Charlie Brooker), all the Observer supplements, Sunday Times (especially sports)… Oh, and if I’m in of a Saturday night I can’t resist a peek at the NOTW site at around 11pm to see who’s in trouble this week.

Oh - The Kentish Gazette in the summer for Mark Pennell’s superlative cricket column from the St Lawrence Ground.

My Favourite TV

Sky+ is my saviour (how very loyal), but the iPlayer comes a close second. Unfortunately mine’s full of The Hills, Laguna Beach, Gavin & Stacey, Sex & The City, Lost, various films involving Ashton Kutcher and old episodes of Strictly that feature Austin Healey.

But I’m not all bad – Charlie Brooker’s Screenwipe is a must, Sky Sports News a constant background accompaniment – I defy you to find a finer TV presenter than Jeff Stelling – and Paramount Comedy turfs up some stand-up gems late at night (especially when Richard Herring’s involved). Oh and Spooks too.

My Favourite Magazines

I won’t deny that the Cake copy of Heat can usually be found in my bag without fail on a Tuesday, and that I read Glamour every month. And I’ll read OK (but only if Cheryl’s on the front).

Before you write me off completely, I’m a big Private Eye fan with my dedicated Step Mum delivering the Christmas Annual to my stocking each year. FourFourTwo sits on my desk for a couple of weeks until I remember it’s there and flick through to see if Neil Warnock makes an appearance. And I am partial to a bit of Sport on a Friday.

MY MEDIA

jason lees Jason Lees smokes Cake all day long.

My Favourite Newspaper

Everything starts with The Sun – it sets the agenda more than any other newspaper and is still packing in readers in a declining market. Problem is, it can be read cover to cover in 10 minutes maximum, so when I actually want something to read it’s the Guardian.

Daily Mail is always a good laugh as well to see just how idiots think.

My Favourite TV

News, current affairs, documentaries and stacks of sport, in particular:

-       Paxman sneering (mostly at his own colleagues) on Newsnight

-       Dispatches and Cutting Edge are usually good value

-       Sunday night travel / wildlife docs – a great cure for the Sunday night ‘fear’

-       Sky Sports for football and cricket (and guilty pleasure WWE wrestling)

My Favourite Magazines

If newspapers are struggling, then magazines are really struggling at the moment. That pesky interweb thingy seems to be giving them a really hard time.

Vice is still great because they write like they don’t give a shit. The NME is just about still worth a read, and the Economist (yes, really!) occasionally gets a quick flick as well.

MY MEDIA

David Proudlock always has something to say at Cake

My Favourite Newspaper

I am not a huge reader of newspapers through the week as I tend to watch Channel 4 news and websites for news, however I am a big fan on a Sunday. I tend to stick to two favourites that fulfil different roles.

Starting with the News Of The World, which I use as a self-esteem tool – no matter how debauched my weekend has been and no matter how bad I feel, at least my life has not reached the point that I am in the News Of The World selling my secrets.

I particularly like the problem page and my favourite ever one was the story of the man who tried talking his new wife into swing - on his honeymoon!!! And first thing he did when they got home was go onto swinging websites even before putting the kettle on – she wasn’t happy.

I usually follow this with the observer to get some more in depth reporting on the world at large and some interesting cultural bits here and there.

My Favourite TV

Not a massive TV viewer as I am not in the house consistently enough to watch a series of anything, although newly acquired Sky+ is already having an impact especially with movies which I have been recording and watching a lot.

Although this may sound very boring and grown up I am a big fan of documentaries and current affairs such as Question Time, Horizon etc and really hate reality TV.

I also love comedies and the more controversial the better, things like South Park, Family Guy, League Of Gentleman, Alan Partridge and Spaced.

The final piece in the jigsaw is anything to do with football.

My Favourite Magazines

Do not really consumer many magazines except for the supplements on a Sunday and Vice Magazine – as is standard for everyone working in media.

When travelling I try and pick up a copy of the economist and always intend to read it more regularly but it never seems to happen.

On my recent travels to the far east I read Monocle which was excellent so will add that to my list of things to read more often in 09.
