Big Chillin’
Thursday, August 9th, 2007With a location somewhere between middle earth and pride and prejudice, the
Big Chill’s Eastnor Castle provides a festival setting like no other.
Rolling fields, flowing lakes, crazy trees and the odd outdoor piano provide
the perfect mix for the varied festival. Initial worries about the weather
were soon quashed with the early arrival of cake members who reassured the
rest of the staff that wellies could be left at home.
And what a weekend it was! blazing sunshine, activities galore, the
friendliest festival crowd you possibly imagine and some amazing
performances… Anybody lucky enough to catch Seasick Steve on Saturday will
tell you “it’s all good!” From funk to rock and house to soul, the big chill
had it all.
Families dominated the fields by day, with kids playing whilst parent were
swaying, it really felt like the summer had finally arrived. By night, it
was a different place entirely, bright colours lit up the trees and waters,
the kids were all safe in bed and the adults came out play. Monsters, flight
attendants and every other form fancy dress outfit were on show, all dancing
away at the many tents and stages.
The weekend felt like one big holiday; a time for friends and family to get
together in a safe and clean environment to hear some great music. It’s easy
to understand why the Big Chill continues to grow after ten years.
