Wii brings Times Square to a stand-still

With the European launch of Nintendo’s Wii just around the corner, the ground-breaking new machine was released to the public in America this weekend. With midnight store openings all over the country, Nintendo ran an event called Midnight Madness at the Toys R Us store in Times Square.

Never one to miss a good jolly Cake attended along with a selection of lucky journalists and competition winners who joined well over 2,000 American consumers who packed the streets to get the must-have toy of the year.

After the dust-settled and our veteran party girl Kate finally got to bed, the US launch was a rip-roaring success with initial estimates at over 600,000 consoles sold by the end of the weekend.

With an official HMV store-opening planned for the Eu launch date, Cake is preparing for similar success in the UK.
