Cultural Learnings in a web 2.0 world (or something like that!)

Add the words “digital solution” to any client brief or pitch and you enter a world of agencies jostling for position and share of budget. Is it advertising, is it media, is it the creative agency, the PR or is it now the total domain of the Digital Agency?

Web 1.0 allowed all of the above to happen and most forward thinking agencies would feast at the clients Digital table but Web 2.0 has changed that and arguably thrown far more relevance towards PR and agencies like Cake. If you look at the Web 2.0 world we have witnessed a culture shift into handing the ‘car-keys’ to consumers. Open Source, like this blog, provide a much easier interface from which to communicate, network and share. What are the skills that agencies need to have to interact with these new consumers? Basically the oldest in the book: content, copy-writing, creativity and err some news! Who is best to deliver this…Cake of course!

So in anticipation of the relaunch of Cake’s Digital Dept the team have upped sticks and headed for America to meet the great and good of the digital world in New York City.

They have a packed schedule that includes meetings with My Space, Google, Yahoo and joining a full blown conference on Second Life from Marc Schiller the CEO and founder of Electric Artists. EA is long term partner of Cake’s and we have worked with them extensively on digital projects over the years.

Here’s hoping they return with a head full of stats rather than a suitcase full of Christmas gifts…[ Ok, Ok, a little shopping perhaps}.
